Innovative rock breaker
Alteco System has designed several equipments on a BTI shot blasting rig for the customer NMV Kiruna. We have been responsible for a number of components all the way from idea to manufacturing and assembly of the finished product.
Background
During blasting operations in LKAB’s underground mine in Kiruna, large boulders are created — known as "skut" — that are too big to be crushed directly. The boulders must first be size reduced to be manageable. This is done using rock breakers (skutknackare), which consist of a mobile base machine equipped with a hydraulic hammer mounted on a crane arm.
The Assignment
In this project, Alteco solved various detailed challenges in the development of a new boulder breaker, including designing protective covers around the motor and hydraulics, a mobile and vibration-damped electrical cabinet with cable arm, as well as platforms and sensor arrangements.

A recurring challenge throughout the project was that the boulder breaker is used in underground mines, meaning the machine had to be as compact as possible while still allowing for easy maintenance access. Thanks to good knowledge and experience, our engineers were able to deliver innovative, customer-tailored solutions. The customer was very satisfied with the execution and final result — but above all, with fast deliveries and clear, efficient communication.
