Project overview
--------------------
This project aims to develop a generator for CAD environments with a focus on telfer lifting systems. The assignment is aimed at students in technical design and mechanical engineering and combines product development, parametric modeling, programming and engineering systems understanding.
The goal is to develop a tool or framework that automates the creation of a model for telfer lifting systems in Autodesk Inventor. The solution can be based on a combination of iLogic, iAssembly and Content Center, where relevant design parameters are retrieved from an Excel-based calculator or similar and converted into a configured CAD model.
The project is carried out at Alteco's office in Luleå (Stationsgatan 36). Compensation for approved work 15,000 SEK for 15 credits and 30,000 SEK for 30 credits.
Project Objectives
-------------
The project objective is to develop a concept and a working prototype for a CAD model generator that can create a model for a hoist lifting system based on defined input data from an Excel calculator or similar, such as lifting capacity, span, lifting height, beam dimensions, trolley selection, fastenings and other installation requirements.
The work may include needs analysis, mapping of design rules, structuring of parameters, development of iLogic rules, construction of iAssembly variants, use of Content Center components and verification through test cases or demonstration models. Depending on the focus of the project, user interface, file structure, component library and connection between calculation basis and CAD environment may also be relevant parts.
Suitable deliverables from the project may be a documented prototype, a description of the chosen system architecture, a working iLogic/iAssembly/Content Center model and examples of generated starting models.
Expected results and relevance
--------------------------------------------
The result of the project should be a well-motivated and technically feasible solution that shows how generative or parametric design can be used to streamline the development of hoist lifting systems in a CAD environment. The end result should be an iLogic/iAssembly/Content Center-based model that can generate a starting model based on input data from an Excel calculator or similar.
Through the project, the student gets to work with a concrete technical challenge with a clear connection to both academic depth and practical industrial benefit, where the result can constitute a first step towards a more standardized and automated working method for the design of lifting systems.
About Alteco
-------------
Alteco is a locally based technical consulting company based in Norr- and Västerbotten. Our operations are based on our core, i.e. project and design management within the process, mining and steel industries. We are a natural and driving partner in our customers' large and challenging industrial projects. We are proud to be part of several important industrial initiatives for our customers. At LKAB, we are involved in the following strategic projects: new main levels for mining at greater depths, a facility for direct reduction with hydrogen and facilities for the extraction of rare earth metals. At Boliden, we contribute to the capacity increase in Garpenberg and we participate in several customers' new establishment projects in Norr- and Västerbotten.
The background to this thesis is that we see a need to grow our business and therefore want to get in touch with driven younger talents who are interested in working on industrial projects in the north.
