Robust belt conveyor
Alteco System, together with the customer LKAB, has designed a 138-meter-long belt conveyor for one of LKAB's pellet plants in Malmberget. Alteco System has been technically responsible for the entire project, from preliminary design to completed commissioning at a satisfied customer.
Background
LKAB's iron ore mine in Malmberget is an underground mine where the ore is mined and crushed deep below the ground surface before being hoisted to the surface. The iron ore is then conveyed to screening and concentration plants before being finally pelletized. LKAB has over 1,100 belt conveyors that extend a total of about 120 kilometers.
The mission
In this project, Alteco has worked closely with the customer to create a belt conveyor for ore handling. Based on the customer's wishes, Alteco has designed the entire system containing feed point and chutes, structure, dust enclosure, discharge, safeguarding and drive unit.

Service-friendly drive unit
Since the focus has always been on the customer's needs, the steel structure was designed to be adjustable for quick adaption to the existing building, and the conveyor has also been given innovative adjustable feed point that prevent lateral belt movement - otherwise a common problem when the goods are loaded asymmetrically. Thanks to effective customer communication and Alteco's bulk handling know-how the end result is a tailor-made and reliable conveyor with a long service life.

Smart and innovative feed point
About LKAB
LKAB's mines are mainly located in Kiruna, Malmberget and Svappavaara. The ore is transported by train to Luleå or Narvik, and from there it is transported by boat to customers all over the world. The mining group has more than 4,500 employees in 12 countries.
